The Eve of the Twelve Days of a Green Christmas…what? Retailers would have you believe the twelve days of Christmas begins on December 1st although many retailers have begun calling it the 12 days of Christmas Deals. They would have you believe the twelve days of their super sales coincides with The Twelve Days of Christmas but that’s actually not the case.
Contrary to popular belief the twelve days of Christmas begins on Christmas Day (the 25th) and ends on the fifth of January followed by the Feast of the Epiphany on January 6.. Every country has its’ traditions for celebrating the Epiphany. Here in the US, you have probably heard about preparing “Kings’ Cakes” leading up to Mardi Gras in New Orleans, or the now defunct “Great Fruitcake Toss” in Manitou Springs, Colorado or the elaborate celebration with the tossing of the wooden cross into the Spring Bayou in Tarpon Springs, Florida, all of these beginning on January 6, the Epiphany, the day after the twelfth day of Christmas.
Seven seasons ago I began my Twelve Days of a Green Christmas. As my passion for energy efficiency, saving money and helping the planet for future generations grew I started researching and writing posts about things that would save me money, help the environment and share my thoughts with others. There have been those who have read my posts, those who have actually upgraded their homes and lives and those who have commented on the money they have saved. I spend hours researching products, deciding if they might be useful in my situation and then writing how they have affected my life or the comfort f my home.
Please join me on my twelve day journey, beginning tomorrow,. Be sure to clear your throat so you can sing my version of The Twelve Days of Christmas! Merry Christmas Eve!
