Today Is America Recycles Day!

Since 1997, communities across the country have come together on November 15 to celebrate America Recycles Day. More than a celebration, America Recycles Day is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling in the United States. One day to educate and motivate. One day to get our neighbors, friends and community leaders excited about what can be accomplished when we all work together. One day to make recycling bigger and better 365 days a year.

On Saturday Advanced Disposal offered St. Augustine area residents the opportunity to bring sensitive documents to a central location for on-site shredding.  I had been dreading the hours it would take for me to shred all my old documents with my little shredder so I just kept putting it off.  When I saw the announcement for free shredding on Saturday I decided to get my stuff together and went through two file cabinets of really old transactions…(would you believe I found things from 1982?).  By the time I loaded one box it was too heavy to carry so I ended up with three, somewhat manageable boxes, about 80 lbs or so.

So, why not make today a greener day and begin recycling something you don’t normally recycle like flattening cardboard boxes and adding them to the recycle bin instead of the garbage or take your depleted rechargeable batteries to Home Depot or Lowes for recycling or look up on Earth911.org where to take your used, single use batteries.
Thanks for Recycling – today and every day!
