Earth Day Everyday?

When I mentioned to my neighbor last week about participating in an Earth Day Event (yesterday) he said, “oh yes, you are a ‘tree hugger’ aren’t you?”.  I replied that I had been called that in the 70′s but as I matured I preferred to think of myself as a steward of the planet.  I followed his comment with ” if we don’t take better care of our natural resources what do you think it will be like for your 12 grand-children when they grow up…will they have enough pure water?  He blithely  responded with “it’ll be taken care of.”  I wanted to ask him who would take care of it but I didn’t have enough time that morning for the discussion that would have ensued… Continue reading

Earth Day 2013 To Be Celebrated On Sunday in Saint Augustine!

Lincolnville-Farmers-Market

Lincolnville Earth Day Festival

Earth Day 2013 events are going on all over the world this weekend! Here in the oldest city, Earth Day is going to be celebrated Sunday at the Nation’s first solar-powered Farmers’ Market in Lincolnville.  In addition to a mobile shredding facility, local foods, local artists and city participation, I will be there with brochures about sustainability and a friendly smile ready to share whatever is of concern with you about our planet!

I’m proud to have participated in 42 (soon to be 43) years of Earth Day (March 22) celebrations, not just one day a year but every day!   I have participated in university “Love Your Planet” celebrations, shredding events and various other green activities, all of which are so different from the 1970′s when participants were made up mainly of college students and professors and very few of the general public.  I am thrilled to see the diverse age groups of participants in just these last few years!  I guess more and more are finally “getting” it.  Visit me tomorrow, support local artisans and buy locally grown produce at the Lincolnville Farmers’ Market!  Don’t forget to bring your documents that need to be securely shredded.  You can have up to 3 boxes shredded for free.

Soapbox Sunday – No More Food Safety Regulations Required!
